Drive your Triumph Day - 10 February 2023
It doesn’t get any better than this. A fine day, winding driver friendly roads, farmland & forest and a convoy of Triumphs on a late morning run to celebrate Sir John Black’s birthday. This was the scene for our annual Drive Your Triumph Day event.
We departed Denman Prospect via suburban roads, passing rows of “little boxes on the hillside, all made of ticky tacky” and headed for the open space of Uriarra Crossing. The road conditions were quite good thanks to recent repairs following last year’s rain. The only hiccup was on the final section of Brindabella Road where extensive resealing work had commenced earlier that morning – but resulting in only a minor delay in the overall scheme of things. The remainder of the run along Paddys River Road, Tidbinbilla Road and Tharwa Drive to Lanyon Homestead was most enjoyable with no dramas. Even the gravel road into the homestead appeared to have been graded, with the normal corrugations far less severe.
Nine Triumphs assembled on the edge of the carpark for a group photo as well as photos of each car with their owners and passengers. These have been submitted for publication on the Drive Your Triumph Day website.
We settled in for a leisurely lunch at The Barracks café in the grounds of the homestead. The limited number of waiting staff did a fine job in delivering food and drinks. A good time was had by all.
Just before departing, Anthony arranged with the ACT Historic Places Coordinator, who happened to be on site, to allow four of our Triumph fleet to assemble on the gravel in front of Lanyon Homestead for a photo shoot. Take a look at the accompanying photos.
Also, check out the International Drive your Triumph Day website displaying an array of photos, taken world-wide of Triumphs out and about to celebrate Sir John’s birthday. Photos of our fleet of Triumphs should appear shortly.
